Playing poker has really changed, in recent years. That's mainly do to the addition of Internet poker rooms. People have really taken to the idea of playing poker online. It's quick, easy and convenient, after all.
Online poker also offers a lot of variety. There are free games, micro limits, high limits, various cash game and tournament types and more. One of the big things drawing people to play online is the variety of games, though. Here's a brief overview of some of them. Texas Holdem Poker: You've probably heard of, or even played, Texas Holdem. It is, after all, the most televised version of poker. In it, each player gets two cards and five community cards are also dealt, with betting rounds in between. The person who makes the best five card hand out of the seven cards available to them wins. Most people are aware of the no-limit betting style of Texas Holdem. Online, though, there are several other ways to play the game. For instance, you might try playing pot limit or fixed limit Holdem. Just be careful, since the limits involved can definitely have an effect on the way the game is played. 7-Card Stud: In 7-Card Stud, unlike in Hold'em, there are no community cards. Each player starts out with three cards. Two cards are face down and one is face up, so everyone can see. There are betting rounds between the dealing of each new card, until the players each have seven cards, 3 of which are face down and four are face up. Each player is, of course, allowed to look at their down cards as they get them. The object is, as in Hold'em, to make the best hand of five cards out of the seven. The interesting thing about 7-Card is that it also has a hi/lo version. In the hi/lo version, the player with the best hand splits the pot with the player with the lowest hand. Omaha: Omaha poker games are a great way for players who enjoy Holdem to add a new level to their game. I say that because the game setup is like Hold'em, except that each player gets four hole cards, not two. There are still five community cards and the object is to use exactly two of the four hole cards and three community cards to make the best hand. Omaha can be even more interesting depending on what version you play. There are both limit and no-limit versions. There's also a hi/lo version, as with 7-Card Stud. So, you can really customize your game choice to your own preferences. Other Games: Online poker possibilities don't stop at just those games either. For example, you might choose to play 5-Card Draw poker. That's a version where each player is dealt five cards and can choose to exchange some or all cards between betting rounds. You might also enjoy Razz or obscure or unusual games, like Caribbean Stud. Whatever your poker choice is, though, one thing is for sure. You can always find a game running at some online poker room.
